I need to abandon this itch of thinking of you,
this longing to know you.

I will melt into the rain
and forget your words
and how they condemn me to a life
sentence in my skin.

It rains heavy at this hour,
and all I can think of is how I will miss this song,
the smell of this earth, this city.

III

Why are you leaving?
Deep inside, I might know why,
but I prefer pretending I don’t.

I don’t think I’m good at mending broken things
or bringing back the dead,
but at least, I’ll have tried.

In these very moments, I could be
coming up with the secret formula
to resurrect the dead in lost paradises,

Llueve muy fuerte a esta hora,
y yo solo pienso que extrañaré tanto este canto,
este olor a tierra, esta ciudad.

III

¿Por qué te vas?

Puede que en el fondo lo sepa
pero prefiero sentir que no lo sé.

Reconstruir cosas rotas
y revivir muertos creo que no se me da,
pero al menos, lo habré intentado.

Puedo en estos instantes estar
inventando la fórmula secreta para
hacer resurrecciones en paraísos perdidos,
pero
       -estoy pensando en vos-

llevo un invierno eterno,
de mis venas salen pájaros
que anuncian nuevos tiempos.

Born in Quezaltepeque on May 30, 1991, Sol Quetzalli is graduated with a degree in History from the University of El Salvador. She also holds a degree in Language and Literature from the Pedagogical University of El Salvador. She was a member of the Amílcar Colocho Literary Workshop and the generation of writers known as the “Bloody Generation." In addition to her research, she currently works as a literature teacher in secondary education, where she leads workshops on art, literature, and culture. Selections of her work have appeared in digital and print publications such as Ars Magazine (2012), Selección Narrativa (2016), and Universos (2016). / Sol Quetzalli nació en Quezaltepeque el 30 de mayo de 1991. Egresada de la Licenciatura en Historia por la Universidad de El Salvador. Graduada del Profesorado en Lenguaje y Literatura en la Universidad Pedagógica de El Salvador. Perteneció al Taller Literario Amílcar Colocho, y a la Generación de Escritores autodenominada «Generación de la Sangre». Ha impartido diplomados de Historia Universal, Nacional y Literatura Salvadoreña. Además de dedicarse a la investigación, actualmente se desempeña como docente de literatura en Educación Media, donde desarrolla talleres sobre arte, literatura y cultura. Muestra de su obra ha aparecido en publicaciones digitales e impresas como: Revista Ars (2012), Selección Narrativa (2016) y Universos (2016).
